Sweetie Strawberry

Fragaria ananassa

The Nellie Kelly ‘Sweetie’ Strawberry has become a favourite of gardeners and cooks alike for its long fruiting season during summer and autumn.

The ‘Sweetie’ Strawberry produces magnificent pink flowers and an abundance of medium sized, red fruit that are juicy and delicious. Growing in clumps rather than via runners, this delightful, vigorous plant grows to 15cm high and up to 1 metre wide.

Nellie Kelly ‘Sweetie’ Strawberries can be grown all around Australia, from Tasmania to Queensland, and everywhere in between. They look great planted in raised garden beds, hanging baskets or tubs and prefer a sunny aspect.

To grow the best strawberries make sure your plants are always moist but well drained. Be vigilant when deterring pests such as snails and slugs. Once fruiting has finished, your strawberry should be pruned back and fertilised to ensure a strong, healthy bush with a good crop for the following season.
